Were the SS HQ monaro s ever realeased as a 253 ,, I know the standard monaro had a 253 , but the SS ??? Can somone clarify please , if so any idea on a 1/4 mile time for a 253 monaro ( standard )

An HQ SS was not a Monaro it was basically a 4-door Belmont with 253 V8 4-speed with SS decals & black outs etc. It was a limited production model made in late '72 to test the marketplace for

i was talking to guy from my work. he told me that his HQ SS was a factory 350. is that real or is he pulling my chain.

Wheels magazine 1972 put the HQ SS down the standing 1/4 mile at 17 sec best 16.9.

Dr Terry, beg to differ, but HQ Monaros did come out with an optional 350 engine. I remember one of the guys out here trading a HG 308 monaro in on a New 350 HQ Monaro. It was red with gold patchs on the bonnet and boot. 350 also optional in Statesmans. A

In reality the 350 V8 was only an official 'option' on the Monaro LS, the Statesman Custom & the Statesman Deville in the HQ series. The normal HQ Monaro GTS (808
