Hi Guys

If the Escort in question had a BDA engine it would. There was a guy in Improved Touring Cars in the early 70s, with an Escort BDA & it beat Moffats Trans Am Mustang on more than one ocassion.

From memory the quickest stock Australian Escort

Hi HQ SAND MAN

Yes, that's quite probable, there isn't much difference in power, the Ford had slightly more torque & is lighter.

If the Ford had a 250 2V (170 HP) then there's no contest, the Ford would win that one.

The ford 250 always had that initial punch which is typical of inline 6cyl vs a v8. As with the 265 in a valiant, i remember an auto vh sedan could do a sub 18 sec quarter(maybe sub 17,cant remember) and that same model in the pacer 15.9 sec with a 3spd m

Hi Guys.

What you say is correct muskell, but that has nothing to do with the comparison between a standard HQ 253 & a standard XY 250, or an Escort or HK GTS 327 for that matter.

Ithink the e49 was faster up to 100mph even than a gtho. Or was it hte other way around:charger faster 0 to 60mph and stading quarter and falcon ho faster to 100mph.

Well I think it does dr Terry......a 265 is basically 15 cubes more than ford 250....straight six pushrods and 2 valves. It's a just a different angle.
If we now compare 4 cylinders racing around bathurst against the V8s...we find the V8s are only a bi
