I think Terry has answered the question. The HT Brougham is an odd ball thing as compared to the rest of HT ie it always had the 308 whilst the rest were 307 until the 307 ran out. And it never got the trimatic ie stayed with the Powerglide.

Was the holden v8 fatory opened on 7/7/1969. if so there could not be a 308 made before then.

Im not sure when the Holden V8 engine plant was opened, but there were plenty of 253 V8s around at the press release of the HT which was the 26/5/69. The 1st 308 V8 seen by anyone outside the factory was on 13/6/69 at the Brougham press releas |

If that was the case then they would not have had any 253s at the release of the HT range in May, then Monaro and Brougham in June. They did have them though. What it might be is the opening, which can happen anytime after it is up and running.

found this the 26/5/69 hurrcane 253 was a development motor called RD oo2 there is a RD OO1.

It is in the Fiv Antoniou book, page 37. They are about to start a V8 engine, so they must have been making them before his date.
Aslo Hurricane was RD001 and GTRX was RD002.

A few years ago at the National Holden Museum in Echuca, he had a very early 253 V8 on display on an engine stand. The engine number read RD002 & the engine was labelled 'Original Engine fron Holden Hurricane'.

Found a date for the first Holden V8 engine, 15th October 1968. Once again a publicity shot so not likely to be the exact date but gives you a ball park of the first 253. I also have a HK 253 engineering report, so made well before the HT.

a HK monaro with the Ls7 (427) from the corvette, with a brougham rear end (from the boot to the tail), HSV 6 pot calipers, T56, VE diff. Would have to be painted sting red (SS blackouts are obligatory), with HSV side blinkers and vents. VE GTS wheels in

I'd love to go back in time and drive my HQ Statesman out of the dealership 308/trimatic column shift Champagne Metallic paint. It's now TH400 floor shift and a crappy white colour (till I get the money to chaange it).

Hi Slobey you certainly could get a/c as an option not sure if it was standard though, if you wanted a TH400 you would have to order a 350 and GTS wheel not until HZ.
