will a small block 327 and a powerglide tranny, fit into eh and be registered in vic/

It will certainly fit (with mods) but I doubt you could get a 327 passed. But a 283 might. And if its a 1963 onwards 283, if you bore it to 4" and stick a small journal 327 crank into it you have 327 cubes. Sneaky way around it.

327 is the largest the engineers are allowing with the capacity/ weight restrictions. There are other ways around it, but for street driving, and not having to have a full chassis installed, that is it.

Go to the Vicroads website, look up VASS engineer

hey peter,
with my conversion, i had to find an engineer in sydney to give the go ahead,,with a 308 in my 98 transit,,every engineer i rang in vic, carried on about all sorts of crap,,even though it has a full chassis??
if you know any that are normal p

You could also go for a 302 chev casting, then change crank to 350, which will =350 CI
most of these 302 blocks are 4 bolt mains too..

Just be aware that there have been instances where the VASS engineers have done a check (not sure myself how it is done) to calculate the capacity of the engine, as it is known by a lot of people that you can build larger Chev capacity into other blocks.

Hi Guys.

Capacity checks are done at drag racing scrutineering after winning any meeting or after any record setting pass.

They use a hose connected to the spark plug hole, as well measuring air density. It is very quick & accurate.
