Hi all,

My VT V6 commodore is stalling around town and only in the afternoon when it's really hot. If this was an older Holden I would think the coil is 'breaking down', could it be the coil pack on the car? If not any ideas on what commonly will cause the car to just stop while it's driving along and then it usually restarts after a few trys but will only stop again a few kms down the road. It seems to be OK at highway speeds but around town at lower revs it keeps on cutting out!!! Thanks in advance.

Peter

How many ks are on your VT, at about 150000 the crank angle can stop working which will make the car stop for no reason.

Wont be the coil mate. As your prob aware it has 3 coils, when they break down it just misses under load, car will not stall, just be very uncomfortable and a b!tch to drive.

JBM: What exactly do you mean mate?

I meant Crank Angle Sensor (typo), its behind the harmonic balancer and tells the computer where the crank is so the spark and fuel goes in at the right time. On the V6 there is no dizzy to do this.

Thanks guys, OK it's a crank angle sensor I'm betting as it has 217000 on the clock. Is this a job that can be undertaken by a fairly competant backyard mechanic who's used to older Holdens but is happy to have a go!!

Cheers

Its a quick and cheap job for an auto-lect, theyve probably done thousands of them for V6s, I would take it somewhere to get it done. It cost me $120 at Sunday rates about 4 years ago.
