Hi all,
Just bought a 5th month 1973 HQ GTS.
There are no engine , Trans or axle codes stamped on the id plate.
Can any one tell me why? Is this normal?
The other numbers are as follows.
Model: HQ 80469
Body: 104399-A
Trim: 1878-30X
Paint: 568-15893
8N69 UCL 251091Q
as i said no other numbers stamped.
Can anyone help identify the car and tell me about the id tag and why it is not stamped?
Thanks.

Not all body plates plates were stamped, some plants stamped all the details and some only 1 or 2 things.
Your VIN indicates a Kingswood Sedan with a 350 engine built in Adelaide between Sept 72 and August 73. All GTS sedans were optioned up Kingswoods.

You only have to be in front at the end of the race.

Hi guys, thanks for the info.
There is no other number after the body number stamped on the id plate on this car.
Should it have a number?
Are you sure the car is a 350 as it did have a 308 in it.
All the numbers it has is what i have provided.

Hi,

It's definitely a HQ GTS 350 sedan. From memory if the gbox and diff isn't stamped, it's an auto, 3.08 diff. Here is a breakdown of your tags:

80469 = Kingswood body (But the 30X trim designates it as a GTS)
1878-30X = Black Trim
568-15893

If at first you don't succeed, just call it Version 1.0

Hey Dr Terry,

That sounds right, I forgot that my 350 has M41 stamped on the plate. I should have realised. =|

Cheers

HQ GTS.
Looked further into it. The VIN number isnt correct. Email me and I can give you more info.

Terry, you are right that a HQ GTS 4-door is a vehicle in its own right, but its still a Kingswood by model. But then again similar story for SS, Sandm

The bottom of the HQ body id tag is only filled in when an optional driveline is fitted. As a GTS 350 base vehicle is a V8 Kingswood it does have L30 and either MC7 or M41 stamped on the trans section.

A standard GTS/4 has M20 on the tag as the standar

Its probably a manual.....I have seen examples of other Adeliade built XW-8 manual sedans with out MC-7 on the tags. Does the vehicle have the Muncie hump on the tunnel??

I dont think it has a hump in the floor but then again i dont know what to look for and looks to have been an auto, no clutch pedal etc.
What should i look for?
I prefer the auto anyway, but i suppose manuals are rarer.

Sounds like a stolen and recovered engine or the original number has been machined off. VP Victoria Police have issued a new engine number.
