Have read previous posts re starting up an engine that has been stored for a while. The posts said about using some diesel in the sump and running this for a short period. I had the info saved on my laptop but hard drive went (lost all my rebuild photos too- now back up). Have done a search but couldnt find anything (wrong keywords?) Can anyone enlighten me on the process please and sorry to go over old ground. thanks in advance.

Diesel in sump?
i wouldn't try that one.
a shot glass of diesel down each cylinder and wind over freely with plugs out for at least 100 revolutions.
CHev - drill wind out pressure up via dizzy shaft.
Holden - take pump off and make sure it is pre - pr |

Found the thread - by Ozchevy in January.Recommends 50/50 mix of diesel and oil in sump and run for a few minutes then change to fresh oil. What are peoples thoughts on this? Would appreciate any info.

the diesel cleans out all the crap that has collected while the motor was stationary. don't run it for too long otherwise you'll ruin the bearings, 5-10mins at 50/50 should do it. Then change to a high quality oil, but not too synthetic.

From my experience, motors that have sat, the sediment in the sump can be changed easily.
1)Change oil, or
2) take sump off if possible and clean if you want to
This is not the main problem of a motor that has sat.
