Ive rekited a 600 holley and havnt really run it far except up and down the road a little and in and out of the garage.
No smoke at all comes from the engine. But I noticed the oil when I changed it smelt of petrol.
Since the change I drove the same small distances and today Pulled the dipstick and again I can smell petrol on the oil.
This cant do the engine any good.. Yes its petrol as the last lot I burned in my log burner in winter and its petrol all right.
The engine is a 350chev with a very very mild cam. It has a single plane manifold with extractors. It also has 327heads on it and a semi highrise manifold. Im running a th400trans and its in a HQ holden.
It runs fine at idle and I cant see any obvious black smoke at all but only the white gas type stuff.
Im not sure what the timing is as Im not even sure which spark plug is the no1. Ive tried to read but found different answers and with some people in the usa in not sure if its diver side usa or what.
I was just out there and tried adjusting the mixture screws as I read. But again I got confilcting info with one person saying in is lean and the other person saying out is lean.
I set one side to highest idle and then the other and back again. What I dont want to happen again is the fuel to end up in the oil.
The carb has secondary vacum and I have no idea if its working or stuck on or any thing.
If you read all the above thanks for your time cheers. Also merry xmas to you all.

Hi Nuts,
There may be something else here. Why did u re-kit the Holley ? Was it running bad ?
I cant comment on 350s but 253/308 fuel pump diaphragms can leak. And they can leak into the sump. Fuel pressure drops and the sump receives a nice top up

Hi funny you say about the running rough. Ive just been out there again and watched the engine and every now and then it does a small shake. The misses picked it up. I didnt as I thought the engine was running fine as it sounds like a kind of cam type id

Hi Nuts,
If you have that much fuel in your it wont be a cylinder. Do a compression test if unsure, BUT, if it was the case u would be burning oil as well. Blue smoke.
If the engine is OLD and tired and all the rings or bores are worn, it is possibl

to get a holley to have minimal dead spots, they have to run rich. just the nature of the beast. i can tell if a car has a holley just by the smell as it drives past, - they have a particular rich odour. check your power valve clearance (the little n Edited by user Monday, 24 December 2007 12:30:09 AM(UTC)
