hey fellas,
how can one tell whether a diff is okie dokie??
cause i just run new diff with wheels off, and the hubs turned,?
but i was able to actually stop the hub from turning with just my hand,?? one side,,is this normal??
how do I know?

sounds like a an open centre diff, perfectly normal thats what they are spose to do if you bought a limited slip and you could stop the hub on one side you got ripped off. its desighned like that so you can drive around corners without snaping axles or br |

so if i tried to stop both sides at once? i would not be able to doit?
one side spun at speed, the other side alot slower, and with a slightly jerky movement?
i presume you mean to take the back cover off, and look at the gears??

you couldnt stop both sides and yeah the other side basically doubles speed when you stop one. you will be able to check the backlash just buy grabing the tailshaft with the gearboxs in neutral and turnit clockwise then anticlockwise and you will feel wh |

thanks so much, I am learning heaps, have never seen the inside of a diff, only in picture form, ingenious, how they work!!
I will try what you said tomoro, this diff has a big drip coming out of back cover plate, so i am a tadd worried it has |
