hey yall,
in this episode we come to the case of "The perculating petrol Tank",
The tank is an ex diesal tank, now running petrol, untill she goes on straight gas,
the main pipe to the carby is in, and the other pipe coming out of the tank, was just sitting there,!
so when i was working under the car, every 15mins or so, i could hear this gurgerling, rumbling sound, and then out of the other pipe would come,,petrol....?? not alot, but maybe 50mls,
I havent been able to figure out why??
the tank is not full, and the old return pipe is higher than the tank??
I have since plugged the end of the return pipe, but fear this will only make it impossible for the tank to be pumped from? and the tank will collaspe??
and thoughts will be appreciated,
maybe drill a hole in the filler pipe, and stick the spare hose in there??
once she is on gas, all this will not be a prob,
thanks already,

Gee u give us some good ones !!

OK. it seems like the extra pipe is sitting below the fuel level. As a diesel expansion wont be such a problem, but petrol does expand, well the vapours do. This may be a diesel breather that is now reacting very badly a

Hey Bear, a dumb question for you. You havent mixed the two lines up? Maybe you have the breather from the top of the tank going to the carb, and the open pipe is actually the feed pipe?

doesn't matter if the pipe is above the fuel level, the end of the pipe is in the fuel, so when the fuel vapours and liquids expand they push fuel up the pipe then when it starts to flow down it siphons out and so runs out the end. Cure? vent the tank.
