hey Yall,
In this episode, we have the case of the leaking caliper pipe insert,
I had to take the pipe going into the caliper off, when i did this, i lost the copper washer, i have since attained new washers, and replaced it,,,but the problem is,, the pipe is still leaking??
solution>>> can i put two washers on it?? keep tightening?? bigger spanner>>> some sort of GOO!!!!,
your thoughts appreciated

Bear, had exactly the same prob, don,t use 2 washers,use a very fine flat file and LIGHTLY clean up both surfaces the washers seal against... make sure the locating pin on the hose fitting is going right home in the caliper before you fit the washers and

dont over tighten what ever you do it only has to be nipped up make sure you have the right washer they come in metric and imperial with diferant thicknesses and as gmholdenman said a very flat cleen surface free of dents and scratches. |

I will file tomoro, but i am wondering whether the 3/8 copper washers are too big outer diam, and are hitting pre worn shape of previous washer?
we will see what happens.

I know its only a small difference, but the washers should be 10mm, not 3/8".

I did ask repco for 10mm, but they gave me 3/8,,uumm? can i grind the washers slightly smaller? do you think it is the outer diam that is the prob??
where I am it is 80klm drive to repco, and they are shut now?? do you think this wo |

If the OD is too big it will never seal, Id try to grind it as you suggest, then clean up with a file or wet and dry as someone else said. You can also anneal (soften) copper by heating over a flame until glowing red and let cool slowly.

BCB. The washers need to be a snug fit as the other guys have stated. 81837 may have hit on your problem. Some copper washers are harder than others, by annealing the washer it softens it enough to bite in and seal. the washer i ground down to fit betterer, i hope is ok, have run out of brake fluid.!!
when i get some more will know,
the wshers look nothing like the ones you have pictured? there are no |
