yep, off to the new year with a bang!!!
does anyone know, what is involved in cutting out a roof, in a van??
full chassis, box construction, 98 transit,
[sorry bout being in Gm section, but there is never anyone home in ford section]!!!
will it need mucho strenghening?
any thoughts, are always greeted with much thankfulness.

Um........ why are you cutting the roof off? I know your making a camper but are you trying to fit a high roof or a pop top? Is it a fiber glass slip on thing?

if your cutting a steel roof of and modifieing it then putinging back on, make sure you brace the inside of the van from side to side and diagonals. I have a book here on how to chop tops and its pretty serious for a beginer. your van may never be the sam

I am cutting the roof out because it is too low to stand up in, and also in summer it is too hot!! need a bit more ventilation!!!

Having seen a couple of campers with rusted roofs from my understanding it can be quiet structural as the side walls fold in and re fitting a roof with out any twist is fun. If you have a look at some of the camper conversion sight on the net and drop the

the support purlins, running across the roof are bolted in!!??
so I will ask an engineer, and maybe have a cook at an already done transit,
I will be making the new roof myself,{being a carpenter, this should be ea

Well that explains it most caprenters I have meet on the building sights are as mad as two bob watches!! Just remember to use galvinised nails in your nail gun when you put your roof on ya dont want them to rust when your near the ocean!! LOL :-)

Well after my last trip to QLD through Sydney (thought i go the coast road for a change) and I was charged $15 for a nissan patrol and a fold up jayco caravan (no bigger than a 5x7 trailer)and being told it was a long vehical, then I suggest you go double

Must have used a lot of super glue with out the lead!!! LOL

To fancy for me! and it would fall out in shock as soon as the wife striped down for a shower or the kids wouls manage to put a ball through it some how.
