Hi all,

I have a V8 trimatic in my WB statesman and with the onset of really hot weather (40 degrees) just lately the car seems to get confused as to what gear it needs to be in. It goes into drive, reverse etc nice and crisp but when driving along it'll sometimes drop to second where it normally would hold third (like on a very slight incline) and then drop back into third, then back to second without warning again. What would be causing this (it is full on the dipstick when checked warm and in drive), could it mean the tranny fluid is getting too thin when hot? If it's the fluid is there a recommended brand of Dextron III I should be using or are they all the same?Anyway any suggestions would be appreciated as it can't be good for the box to thump into second at around 100kph!!

Thanks

Peter

try fitting a trans cooler kit & servicing the trans as the oil may be getting a bit thin causing peressure loss or the bands may need adjusting, I always add a bottle of nulon auto trans treatment too, as this helps to keep the box shifting smoother for

Hi Peter,
You could also start by checking the kickdown switch up near the drivers kick panel. It has about 5 positions and you could try moving it one position backwards (to the rear of the vehicle). Probably easier starting here as it might be coincide

replace the little rubber hose on the back of the transmission (MODULATOR VALVE) and on the other end of the tube up at the inlet manifold end.
do the top one first as the bottom one is a bu--er to keep on and can be dislodged when you do the top one.
