im looking at building a bit of a track/strip car out of my te gemini. i was originally gonna put a 253/trimatic with a possibilty of a 308 later down the track. but after speaking with a fella i know that owns a drag/street 57 chev, he has convinced me to put in a small block, namely a 307 or 327. apparently they are narrower and shorter than a 253/308. thinkin a 2 speed powerglide behind it. but what diff would be good? i wouldn't mind a 9" but i think it may be a little over kill for my needs at the moment. would 300 ponies be easily achieved with heads, cams, ignition, etc? im thinking so.

cheers Nick

There was also a 253 auto wagon in Street machine years ago. It had a fine spline banjo in it with Gemini axles (same splines). Probably too small for a SB though.

Hi Guys.

This is where the SBC (in stock form) has its limitations. In a Gemini, especially a 'track' car weight is a problem. A 253/308 is much lighter than an SBC. Since you probably won't need 500 bhp, its not worth getting alloys heads, manifold &

through a bit of research i have found that the 327 will have around 300 bhp which will give me low to mid 11s. with heads, cam etc i will easily get 10s.

If the 327 fits so will a freefidy, you can grab a crate engine much cheaper than bying a 327 dunger and rebuilding it
