a guy at work is looking at a 308 to buy, the gearbox that came off it was a powerglide, the question is would this be a chev pattern block or trimatic pattern ?

If they were originally bolted together by Holden the block will be Aussie pattern - all pre HJ 308 blocks are. BUT, it could be a Chev Powerglide behind a TH block as well.

best way to remember -
big dow = chev
Dow in middle of 2 lower holes= Chev

Small Dow = Holden
Dow closer to bottom bolt hole = Holden.
