gday all, im looking at a panelvan thats painted up like a sandman its a early 76 model small tag reads 8M70TGL36086IX ,MODEL HX8WM70,BODY 210494-A, PAINT 1890-60A, TRIM 56815953.ENG L32, TRANS M41,DIFF GU4. I DIDENT SEE A XX7 NUMBER ON THE OPTIONS PLATE ,BUT ONLY FOUND OUT ABOUT THIS NUMBER AND COULD BE THEIR BUT UN SURE WHAT IT MEANS.THE CHASSIE AND THE ADR TAG MATCH. HAS HOLES FOR FULL ROOF LINING AND LOOKS AS THERE ARE FACTORY COUNTER SUNK HOLES, AND IS WHITE'ISH IN COLOUR IN THE REAR IN SIDE, THIS IS MY CAUSE FOR CONCERN ,IS RED OUT SIDE WHY WHITE IN THE BACK . AS FOR MY LIMITED KNOWLEDGE ABOUT TAGS I CAN SEE IT A ORIGY 308 AUTO MADE IN DANDENONG BUTS THATS ABOUT IT. ANY INFO WOULD BE APPRECIATED THANKS.

It can't be L32, M41. As the VIN tag has a T in it it must be L31. See if you can get the GVW off it, and the seating capacity. Also see if it has door switches for the interior light.

yes mate it confused me too i rang the guy to comfirm and he will get back to me later to day,as he's wasent at home. and i agree T is for 308 as in QT in engine prefix, and R is for 235 as in QR engine prefix and the popriverts on the tags arent right et

My HX Monaro is a factory fitted 308 with M21. The Vin has the T for 308 but the body tag is stamped ENG. L32 TRANS. M21

Incorrect stampings on the body plate is quite common, particularly engine ID.

yes thanks mate i have also noticed this over the years and always got conflicting answers. for what i can gather is L31=253 L32=308(standard block), thats why L34 stamped on the option tag of toranas. because these blocks are different to the standard 30

ok the bloke rang back, my mistake engine code is L31 as you said byron. the GVW is 1950kgs and there are interior button holes in the door jams, forgot to ask about seating capas it has a bit of rust in her but not totaly unrepairable but very straight a

ok thanks for that, could you tell me did the a/9x have pollution gear from factory. the factory hp rating for the a/9x in 79 is much higher, than other 308s for 79 how is this higher output obtaind with the choking epa regulations of 1979 i have a pictur

hi could some one help i looked at a hx ute that is very rusty but on the id plates it says L34 engine code is this rite cheers bazza

Either you have read it wrong or its mis-printed. Can only be L20, L23, L32, L33 or L31. Most likely L32.
