Hi,

The problem of broken buttons on late model Commodore keys has come up here heaps of times. The little black rubber boots break, and it costs up to $100 to have it replaced and recoded by Holden.

I have been told a proven solution that I'll pass on. Apologies if it's already been posted.

Get some flexible silicon sealer, that comes in the tubes. (Cost probably around $10.) Fill the holes with silicon, and before it's dry, smooth it off, leaving a slight "bump" if you like. Give it about 3 or 4 hours to cure.

Because it dries flexible, it works fine, and pushes the little microswitches when you push the silicon bump. And of course, it seals the key from the weather.

Three keys in my family have been fixed with this so far, and the suggestion comes from a Holden dealer. (Won't say who...)

Cheers,
Jason.

I fixed one by using an old key with good rubber , broke the key open swapped the rubber pad and glued it back together.

I can now fix the keys for my wifes VX, thanks for the tip. Much cheaper than a new key. PS are the rubber covers available separately from Holden, just in case the missus flips out about filling the key with silastic.

I am pretty sure the rubber is moulded into the plastic case, thats why i used the silastic.
I used 3bond(the stuff to bond tranny cases or sumps)and some spit on your finger to smear it into shape and leave for a day.
If you're feeling creative you can
