Hi Guys

I have a problem with the steering wheel column I can't work out. The problem is that the steering wheel moves out about 25mm when you pull on it lightly - usually when accelerating. When it happens the blinkers and steering lock no longer engage and no longer work.

There is movement in the top coupling on the intermediate shaft that couples the steering column to the steering box but I think that it is designed that way - correct me if I am wrong.

It seems like there must be a clip missing to stop the shaft moving up and down in the actual steering column.

Has any one seen this before or know what the cause may be?

Regards

Check the top bearing they are only held in there by a thin lip of metal amd end up cracking so when any "pulling" preasure is applied the whole bearing slips out. Pain in the a$$ I have have a few HQs and commodores doing this.

pop the steering wheel

Thanks WRT

I will check it out tomorrow. Is the bearing and retaining mechanism an item that can be replaced/repaired?

both upper and lower steering column bearings are available from Rare Spares, also you can get fully reconditioned intermediate steering shafts from us (on a change-over basis) also brand new steering couplings for power or non power steering.
