hey im putting together a sbc , i just went out today to get the centre bolt for the balancer , to find it doesnt seem to need one

whats the go here

there is no thread inside
plz help

The centre bolt goes into the end of the crank with a big washer to hold the balancer on. The balancer should have a keyway (slot) that lines up with a key (or lump of metal) on the crank. Line up the key with the slot, slide on, and then put in bolt an

Hi jabba.

Early SBCs, like the 327 & 350 engines fitted to HK/T/G didnt have the centre bolt in the crank or even a threaded hole. The bolt & washer came with later SBCs.

Even if it's an early crank that is not tapped for a bolt, it is worthwhile getting a thread tapped into the crank so that you can fit one.
The thread size is 7/16 UNF.
It's a pretty expenxive exercise repairing an engine that the balancer has come loo
