hey fellas I have been put on a three month trial as an apprentice fitter and machinest (pretty sure i have the job) I was just wondering if any one on here is one by trade and could give me a few tips or advice on anything related about it ,would be great.
And does anyone know of any old montesa's or parts lying around wanting a new home, i colect them and there so hard to find.

Im a fitter and turner by trade i work as a deisel fitter now though i got sick of being bitten by hot swarf...I did my time on the big gear mainly big hydraulics for mining equipment with lathes as big as 6 meters long and a 2 meter swing and mills that |

Thanks Dan will put that one in my note book! at my work we specalise in making hydrualic fitings, When i finish the apprenticeship I will be be specalising in CNC's and because im working with these fitings i have to learn imperial but im picking it up |

I did CNC as a part of my aprentiship and did about 5 months on a machining centre but forget 99% of it as i didnt do enough of it. that tip i gave you dont count for CNC as im a manual machinist. Imperial isnt that hard you would be making fittings like |

I have had a few apprentices work with me over the years as a bit of advice is keep your mouth shut and listen and always admit your mistakes cause you will make many, and ask when you dont know. alot of the new apprentices i have had with me latley want |

My first trade was Toolmaking, (I work as an Electrician now) similar sort of stuff - but more complex and precision machining involved. I made press tools and dies for injection moulding machines from blue print drawings. Lathes and milling centres was o

if anyones got a cheap little lathe I wouldn't mind. about 3foot or less even only want to do small size jobs don't wear loose clothing stuffs the settings up when you wind your arm around the job when your shirt sleeve gets caught.

at my work people dpnt even wear shirts, bet you wouldnt see many places like that around
see not many people know of them haha a montesa is a spainish motorbike VERY hard to get parts for have to buy most parts over seas which can get costly, thats |

Nice bike! lucky find! looks like the old 125 CBR or elsanor i think they called em. Be prepared as a machinist cut yourself and pick millions of metal splinters out of you hands. watch were you put your fingers fitters and turners lose more fingers then |

bundy, yes - spark eroder is another name for EDM, electrode in an oil bath. I still have hundreds of blocks of carbon for proto-type machining in EDM, can't say I'll ever use them again though. Amasing machines all the same, the very intricate detail t

good on ya browno, great attitude! you wish to learn,, i am a carpenter and joiner by trade, and we all wish we could have the luxury off a few thousand,s to play with! but in carpentry, it either fits or it dont!!

im 25 and a fitter and turner by trade. I have been doing it for about 8 years. (started young)
Best advice i can give you is never say you know how to do everything. or sugest your an expert at anytyhing. you can always lurn.

and DO NOT lend your measuring equipment! This is YOURS. tell em to bugga off and spend their own thousands of $$ and buy their own.
They will only come back stuffed or get lost.
