we think our import regs are bad, Mexico has just banned imports of all cars that are not 1998, that means if it is 1997 or 1999 it can't be imported, they reckon if its older than 15 years it is environmentally unsafe and if it is newer it is competition for their new car industry.
car dealers and importers were given one month to dispose of all second hand cars that were not 1998, so 1998 cars have suddenly gone up in value in south texas car yards.

On July 30, 2003, the final original VW Beetle (No. 21,529,464) was produced at Puebla, Mexico. One of the reasons it was discontinued after 58 years of post war production was pollution requirements. |
