basically yes.
be careful when going from 2.78 / 3.08 to: 3.55, 3.36. 3.89. 3.90
they take 2 longer bolts at the bottom, one of them a sump bolt.
you may have to weld a nut / thread on the inside of the housing when going from >3.36 to 3.08 / 2.78 d

Hi there,
A diff centre from a HR WILL bolt in to a HQ housing but you will need to get two of the short bottom HR bolts to use on the housing. No offence to adam Perth but I think he was thinking the other way round HQ centre into HR.
The other thing t

the two longer bolts apply only to factory 2.78 and 3.08 housings, regardless of what model they were out of, 6 or V8.
all 3.36, 3.55, 3.89, 3.90 have short bolts.
AFAIK, FE - HZ all interchange, and willing to bet the FJ's as well.

The XU-1 was the

the only XU1 model to have fine spline axles was the 73 "bathurst", about 7/73 on
all earlier with as standard LSD course spline with optional 3.36 or 3.08 centre

Yes all early are course spline, except 73 XU1. I think the banjo went fine spline in HX or HZ.

LH and LX V8 might also have fine spline.

All others are interchnageable, just watch housings, 3.08 and 2.78 have long bolt all others have short bolt on

Yes warren, if he takes a STD HR diff, lets assume 3.36 / 3.55 like most of them were, and he puts a 3.08 in, ONE of the TWO longer bolts will require a nut welded to the inside of the housing.
The other longer bolt will be the sump plug.

Hi Guys.

The other way to do this, with a bit more fiddling is to fit a long bolt (with a shakeproof washer) from inside the housing. This will act as a long stud, replacng the original short stud in that position.

The closest long bolt that fits, i
