Hi guys, i just thought i'd get you to take a look over my plans for a new combo for my VK. Basically it's going to be based around a VN-VP 304 block, and it will be a stroker. I need some guidance over intake manifolds and fuel delivery - Bearing in mind this will be driven quite a bit, so solid cams are out. i'm looking at around 350-410hp. NOTE: all block machining is mandatory, so i wont include it on the list.
Combo 1: Eagle 355 stroker crank Scat H-Beam rods SRP forged 383 pistons VN heads Single plane or dual plane Crane 284 cam/286 cam Quadrajet Carburettor (please advise on a carb, as im a little bit skeptical)
Combo 2: same as combo 1, but with carby style throttlebody and injection (Delco ECU)
Combo 3: same as combo 1 and 2, but with VN Injection (bananas manifold)
Combo 4: (budget - cheapie motor) Offset ground 253 crank 265 hemi rods chev 350 hypereutectic pistons Blue/Black motor heads with a little port work Crane 284
H-Beams and forgies are generally because i am going to go with forced induction later down the track, and this will be set and forget. I am seriously considering the 330 stroker motor, and saving my pennies for the 355 turbo motor. Basically because it costs about as much as a proper rebuild.
the reason i am skeptical about the quadrajet, is that i have no idea whether it will feed the motor or not. if it will, then i will go for it if i go carby, because it gives reasonable economy.
Please give some constuctive criticism. cheers.
If nissan motorsport is nismo, then doesn't that make honda motorsport Homo?

what about a roller cam might make it more streetable? dual plane manifolds are more streetable and can work up to the HP you want, i thought strokers have more bottom end torque which you will lose on a single plane manifold. dont think the vn injection Edited by user Saturday, 8 March 2008 7:40:06 AM(UTC)

dont really want to go roller cam, wont make THAT much more difference. not really looking for drivability, it wont be that rough, just RELATIVELY good fuel economy (under 17L/100kms) forced induction will come soon definitely, thinking a blower now (orig

Forget about the Blower mate, you'll have to go low comp pistons, steel crank, 4 bolt mains, roller rockers, which will mean everything you've already spent will be wasted. You'll need a blower manifold, blower drive pulley setup, really you will have to

yes i had a friend at a mine i worked at and he was pulling 400+kw out of VT 5 litre with a vortec on it was stock cam stronger rods and 0-ringed block and a fair bit of head work he drove it everyday. 8 psi boost, was going to go to 12 dont know if he di |

Thanks for your input guys! Im building the motor so i can use a blower, or a turbo later on, Thats the whole idea. I understand your point though. Although, If i decide to go blower, then ill get a crankshaft rebuilders cast crank made up with a se Edited by user Saturday, 8 March 2008 8:38:49 AM(UTC)

does anyone know how much the quadrajets flow? i'm really leaning towards the 330 stroker idea, because it's so cheap. meanwhile i will collect the parts for the blown 355 motor, as they are quite dear.
any thoughts? advice on the 330 will be taken on

I looked at the offset ground 308 stroker a while back, but the economics just didn't add up. I even bought a crank and had a VL 304 block ready to go with clearances for rods etc. The crank was ground to suit SJ 327 fuellie rods. But when you start addin |

Boom if you mean what is the cfm rating on a Q jet the Aussie ones are rated at about 750cfm and some of the US ones are rated at 800cfm. If you want to mod your Q jet yourself and need help, email me at [email protected] and I can send you some of the i

Thanks guys, i have been doing some sums, and if i build a budget 355, it will actually cost less than a 330 stroker, have more cubes=more torque=more power.
so: If i was to build a budget 355, and upgrade to blower suitable internals later, to get 350

One thing to be careful of using the Chev 4" bore, 3.75" stroke pistons is they are not the right pin height. They are 1.425", where as a Holden 350 using Chev rods use a 1.433". This might not sound like much but having the incorrect quench by having pis Edited by user Saturday, 8 March 2008 10:15:06 PM(UTC)

yep, i am going to have the block zeroed, so quench won't be a problem, the eale crank is 3.48"- i just checked, and i'll be using a 5.7" rod.
Don't get me wrong the COME stroker kit is a good deal, but i would rather spend the extra $250 and go 383,

You are very limited with VN heads, but there are some around. Keep researching. I'd try to use a dual plane though. Remember even Bob Jane ran a dual plane on his ZL-1. As did every competition Group C/A Holden V8 pre Walkinshaw and even the Group Camaro |
