Based on the tag number, which doesnt appear in "the bible" then Id say no, its just a plain SS.
There are some gaps in the bible that are difficult to trace, and there is a slim chance that a late 83 SS could fall into one of those gaps.

What does it

The "bible" is available on ebay from its author, Chris Sewell.

This is his ebay store: http://search.ebay.com.au/_W0QQsassZexbrock

The softcover $49.95 version is great value.

All VH SS HDT had a HDT tag on them. These could be Gp1 2 or 3.

HDT did not start fitting HDT tags until 1984.

The VH SS first came out in 1982.

HDT did not fit build tags to any VC, or VH, or early '84 VKs.

Into VK they started off with the stick-on 'improved' tag, but in Feb 85 it changed over to the rivett

Hey Mick great info mate. That was a great simple explanation. Can you tell me what a basic VH SS is worth these days? Are they a collectable or just a poor mans HDT? No offence intended by that but you know what I mean... Cheers.

The SS will become collectible in it's own right. Good ones are now asking over $10K, whereas a couple of years back, $5K landed you a good one.
I would suggest $3-5K for a roughie, up to $15 for a mint one would be a reasonable ask.

L36 it would be - 253.
XV2 confirms it as an SS.
1980 is Maranello Red.

Without a body number off that plate, or the corresponding tag number off the VIN plate, you cant tell if its a HDT.

Mick
