Most aussie 307s can be bored to 327 and then stroked to 350 or 377. They are not a stroked 283 as all 283s had small journal cranks and all 307s are large journal. You can stroke a 1963 or later 283 to a 307 using a small journal 327 crank, but its not a

Hi SANDMN.

All VL V8s are 304ci.

The 304 began midway thru VK production. The easy way to ID them is to get the engine number prefix.

I thought the 283 and 307 had the same bore 3.750. and the stroke is 3.00 for the 283. and the 307 has 3.25 stroke the same as the 327. the HK 327 had the 2.00 small journal,as with the 307 and 283. then the last batch of HK got the 2.10 large journal.as

Hi rosie.

You are correct about the stroke, but not about the journal size. AFAIK all Holden Chevs have large journal cranks.

I think you misunderstood Byron's post. He meant that a 307 was not 'just' a stroked 283. It has the large journal crank &

Most 283's can also go to 4", but as Terry clarified all 307's are large journal. Not just Holden fitted ones, but ALL. Same with the 327 in HK - they were all large journal.

VJ prefix is VL. Different blocks. VN is TH block, VL is trimatic.
