The 28's will be HQ/HJ/LH/early LX heads. If the 99's have a U shaped EGR port they will be red pollution. Use the HQ heads. The early ones are getting rare and are valuable for concours restos.

I was under the impression that 2812174 casting heads were only used on LH/LX and that HQ used a different casting number (I cant remember what it is and I cant check as Im at work atm).

All pre pollution V8 red motors from HQ onwards had the same heads (except L34).

Thanks for clearing that up Byron. I had 9936122 down for HQ heads so I'll need to change that. Are 9936382 and 9936482 the correct numbers for L34 heads? Were the 9936122 heads used on blue and black motors?

This part number versus casting number thing pops up all the time, As rosie said, the casting number is NOT the same as the part number for a fully assembled head.

AFAIK 9936482 is the correct casting number for L34 heads. The are 5 differe

Hi Byron.

I was talking pre-EFI heads only.

If you count the XV2 Group A head as being 'Black', then you would have to then include all EFI heads as they are also 'Black'.
