hi, any feedback on traditional cooler vs the stacked plate type?
i fitted a stacked plate, recommended for v8 use with a trimatic, doesn't seem to shed a lot of heat
and being a fridge mechanic, i can't recall seeing stacked plate construction apart from very specialised water chilling evaporators ( i think ) in my 34 years on the job

hey tenticles ive often wondered if i removed a coil from a outdoor split system unit and cut it down to a more managable size weather it would work as a tranny cooler.your self being a fridge mechanic might know a bit more about weather it be durable eno

The best tranny coolers Ive used have a tank at each end and like a honeycomb construction core. I had one on my ute. It had a hot 377sbc with TH400. Had 10" 3000 stall convertor. yours sounds like the go sandman you dont know the bread of it do u.did you run this inline with the radiator still or did u make it seperate.....

hi wb, yes, if you could be bothered, a split system evaporator ( room part of small household a/c system ) would be ideal
prolly too long, easy enough to reduce the height but not the length

I always run them through the cooler first then through the radiator.
That way it keeps the tranny at a pretty constant temp which they are designed to run at. By running through the cooler first it takes some of the load off your radiator as well becaus

not sure about being too restrictive
but they are available in sizes from 1/4" up, so id think a 3/8 would be fine
maybe he just doesnt sell scrap air con parts for $2 a kilo

I guess a 3/8 unit wouldnt be restrictive as the tranny lines are 5/16.
But Ill still stick with the coolers Ive been using

i install splits for work and have a couple of old ones laying around.im trying this on my patrol first so length isnt an issue cos ill mount it low behind the bull bar not covering the radiator to much.i wanted to divorce it from the radiator cos i have

I have always run them separate, and big. got 350000 KM out of a trimatic behind a 308 with 265 HP. and driven hard, but not stupid. i thought trimatics were rubbish before i bought it, i thought it may last 6 months at best. i can only put it down to the
