hi, any feedback on traditional cooler vs the stacked plate type?

i fitted a stacked plate, recommended for v8 use with a trimatic, doesn't seem to shed a lot of heat

and being a fridge mechanic, i can't recall seeing stacked plate construction apart from very specialised water chilling evaporators ( i think ) in my 34 years on the job

The best tranny coolers Ive used have a tank at each end and like a honeycomb construction core.
I had one on my ute. It had a hot 377sbc with TH400. Had 10" 3000 stall convertor.
I ran a temp gauge in the gearbox to keep an eye on it, as I also used t

hi wb, yes, if you could be bothered, a split system evaporator ( room part of small household a/c system ) would be ideal

prolly too long, easy enough to reduce the height but not the length

but in saying that, they are cheap, plentiful and will ha

I always run them through the cooler first then through the radiator.
That way it keeps the tranny at a pretty constant temp which they are designed to run at. By running through the cooler first it takes some of the load off your radiator as well becaus

not sure about being too restrictive

but they are available in sizes from 1/4" up, so id think a 3/8 would be fine
