i just brought an xa sedan, i was told the motor is not original and was changed many years ago with another motor out of another xa, i was just wondering what code i need to check what type of motor it is, a 200, 250 etc etc, also need to know where to find the numbers as obviously the one on the id plate will be no use... and where i can check the numbers to find out what it is...

thanks

Check on the side of the block. From memory it's the passengers side. Should start with JG or JH

g'day xa man
i am pretty sure to find out if its a 200 or 250 the water pumps are different sizes and the length between where the sump bolts on to and the deck should measure around 1 inch or so more than a 220,221 block

XA XB engine code
200 low com = E
200 high = G
250 low = J
250 high = L
250 2V = M
NO XB 2V.
I think the water pump is the same XY-A-B. and XR-T-W is the other.

On the compliance plate of the vehicle that your engine came out of. So most probably not much use to you.

mate, find the engine number on the block and we can work out what the motor came out of at least. Try this link and scroll down. Interesting read on the straight sixes.
