Does anyone know anyting about cracked aluminum heads, lets just say someone cooked an engine and I'm told the head was cracked.
Is it possible to repair them successfully this guy took the engine to an engine re conditioner who rebuilt the engine and repaired the head by using the overlapping stud method.
Now after the head was repaired should one be able to see where the repair was because we can't see any sign of any repair.

I am no guru but You would expect to see some sign of a repair. depends on where the crack was. The repair is not under the camshaft? Usually they crack and pressure test the heads after repairs, if in doubt, get it checked out.

The rebuilder was an old guy and the repairs were on of his last before he retired, he has since passed away. I will have it tested as the remainder of the head looks perfect.

Back in the seventies there used to be a place in The Valley (Brisbane) that did what they called "metal stitching" which was similar to "overlapping stud". I only ever saw it done to cast-iron heads, but when they had finished the job and it was all mach

Aluminium heads are very easily and cheaply repaired.
