Thanks to Byron

Two years ago I set out on a quest to find the identification of my HJ GTS coupe refer post: (HJ coupe I.D. required (GTS?)). My only source of I.D. was a chassis number and a Firewall stamp.
Thanks to the knowledge and helpfulness of Byron, He established the my chassis was Feb 1976.
This was a great start for me as production of the coupes finished in April 1976. Although there was no guarantee the car had the original chassis fitted, being a Sydney build the chassis and fire wall number were within one thousand of each other. This seems the norm for Syd cars. Since then I‘ve been collecting chassis numbers and body numbers. With the help of a friend who was able to source the data on all Feb / Mar & Apr 76 Monaro coupes (Approx 50 including engine numbers) from Holden’s micro fiche, I was able to sort/ break it down to 5 possibilities via manual car, No Air cond. The next step was to go to the AMOC (Association of Motoring Clubs Victoria) and with the data I provided (Chassis & 5 Engine Numbers), they were able to confirm the identity of my car.

For anyone wanting to know how to track tag less cars sometimes it can be done….

Just goes to show that if you are determined enough and willing to crunch data with help from friends and good people on places like fastlane almost anything is possible.

Thanks again Byron

Regards Rockett.

Microfiche is a bit like the old slides you used in a projector with the information being micro sized. It is magnified when viewed through a projector. Most large companies kept records this way up until around the early 80s.

Rds

Effectively I now have vehicle history and this will allow re-registration of the car without I.D. Plates.
I have had the opportunity to re-birth this car with other tags but the challange to find its identity was more appealing as rebirthing can
