G'day all. have a red 253 sitting in the back of a ute. Does anyone know how to test if it works ok without putting it in the car? i.e can you start it on the floor or benchstart it. If so. HOW ?

hey russ,
i am not sure, but i think you gotta get a battey, connect it too starter, when your ready, got to supply battery to coil, and then pour petrol down carby?
i think you gotta earth starter to block, and coil earth to block, but i might be total

you can fire it up pretty much as set out above, but it tells you very little apart form you know how coenct up th elctrics to start it,

even a comp test on it will be rather inconculsive

I take it you dont know the engines histoy, lets fase it if

Adam, its the one i sold u with the HJ?
like i said, its condition was unknown to me.

However, it was well wrapped up in blankets, with rags in holes etc, which is a good sign.

your standard compression test is where you put the gauge in th plug hole and crank it over reading its compression, even a very sick engine can look goof like this but its an indication, its a good idea to do both a wet and dry test just to see how much

Adam,
Yeh it is that motor. I don't want to go to the trouble of putting it in and finding it's f-----d. I would prefer to rebuild it first and then put it in if it is. It's my daily driver so if it's off the road i'm screwed. Don't like walking too far
