If i was looking at a 1970 feb built 80837 monaro, with saginaw hump and 10 bolt diff hump, would it be safe to say its not a Chev and would either have been a 253 or a 308?
How could you identify which engine it should have and why?
Thanks for you help

Firstly it is a 5 litre or bigger as it has a 10/12 bolt hump.
Secondly it can't be a 307 as all 307 HT's were autos (except for a rare few you could count on one hand)
Thirdly it can't be a 350 manual as it's an 0837.
Therefore it must be a 308.

I'm not sure either but i know that a 1970 Feb built would make it a HG and that the 80837 HG was a holden V8 as the 81837 HG had the 350 chev.
I don't know if or how you can tell what motor it should have had, sorry.

Fellers, another option is a 253 that was optioned with the 10/12 bolt diff. The number stamped in the firewall will confirm it is a HT also. Ours was a 6/70 HT
