hey yall,
just wondering about carbon fibre,
have seen on a couple of us sites, them talking bout carbon fibre, and was wondering about it?
eg
how much
how does it come, eg sheets,
what size,
can one mold it,
and how do you mold it,
anyone know,

Hi Bud, Carbon fibre comes in sheets or a roll,for large quantities. Its actually a super strong light weight fibreglass type product. It can be made into almost any shape and size. Generally people with the automotive flavour like to ,make replica panels

hey thanks chevguy.
I tried using fibreglass, and found it really hard to use, and to smooth out, heaps sanding, especially without a mold,
so i was wondering whether one can use the C fibre to make a shape, without having it end up like fibrglass, alm |

basketbear the carbon fibre is just like cloth, similar to fibo mat. and you paint the resin on. there is hitech and lowtech ways to do it but i dont think it will be any easier than glass because the lowtech way is a very similar process. should be plent

i tried googling it!!
i got over 1 million hits, mostly trying to sell me carbon fibre, but i am getting old and havent got the time to read thru, just find out whether the Cfibre is easier to use than glass?

will definitely be harder than bog - its a resin like glass. dont know all that much about it but i have been told it will blunt carbide bits really fast if you try to machine it and you need diamond tools... so yeah i would think MUCH harder than glass.

as jamie said carbon fibre composites are very hard and strong this is due the fine weave of cloth and the epoxy resin used, unlike fibreglass which uses a polyester resin, similar to that in "bog"
to do carbon fibre correctly it is vac formed and cured

i wont be trying Cfibre,
my roofrack/poptop/floor on le camper is ply, with vinyl to keep it waterproof,
if cfibre was workable, and economical, would have tried it,
