That was a steal. It's a rarer and more valuable Sandman ute than any HJ-HZ example. Buyer must be grinning from ear to ear. I'll bet half the people bidding had no idea what they were looking at.

If we all had the same (good) taste, who would buy all the Fords?

While no doubt that HQ ute is rarer and to a real Sandman collector would be the ducks guts. The HX HZ series with the second series decals and on the HZ front spoiler and twin headlight are the more recognisable, desireable and sought after. Especially if the ute or van is a flash color

Ill agree to disagree. To me HQ is the most sought after, followed by HJ. Theyre all good though! My ultimate is a HJ Kingswood XX7 ute in 308 TH400. Probably in white or yellow.

Is that your ute on your profile pic rusty? nice, original color? You are right Byron the HQ is rarer and to me its more desireable, I am restoring 2 HQ Sandman vans at the moment, but I bet if I sold the Qs up against my HZ Sandman van the Z would sell quicker and for bigger dollars.
I remember going shooting in my mates brand spanking new HJ Sandman ute RED, 308 auto, ac, ps. Now that was a nice Sandman ute! only kept it for 6 weeks and traded it for a 4x4 cause it was better in the bush.

Yep & No its not original colour,

Have you ever seen a sandman silver

On the sandman website aztec silver was a option for HZ sandmans.

That was why I painted it Silver.

No never seen a silver, looks amazing in that color though. I have a HJ GTS coupe on my list waiting for resto that is Satin mist mettalic silver, cant wait to see that. Tossing up if I do that ahead of my HQ Sandman van that is in the nice gun metal grey mettalic
