My XP runs a pre-crossflow 250 with a 3.50 diff through the original 3 speed box. This means at 100kph it reving at 3000rpm. What are my options to lower the revs and fuel consumption? Change diff? Or is there a gear box with a ratio that will improve the situation?

Yes Change diff ratio or better still get an XF T5 gearbox. I believe that you can also buy an adapter plate that bolts onto the back of a 250 3 speed bell housing and a T5 bolts to that. This enables you to use the more readily available EA onwards T5.

Thanks! Sounds like its the way to go. I see the final drive ratio of a T5 is 0.79:1 where as the current box is 1.00:1. Where do I get the adaptor plate?

Jim, what bell housing do I need to marry the T5 to the pre-crossflow 250?

You could use a 4.1 crossflow XF T5 bellhousing straight on your 250. EA onwards ones are different and have the starter motor on the wrong side for an OHV ford 6.
