Everyone would know the good old HK acting as a stunt double at the start of this movie ie the HT/G Monaro racing and crashes, but the crashed and burnt out Monaro is actually a 6cyl HK.
Just discovered that in the final race at the end between the '57 and the Dodge, there is a 4 door HT that gets hit by a bus. Well it's not a HT that gets hit - it's a bloody HK again. Sacrilege.

This link shows you the HK getting hit:

Here is the HT just before:

I guess it's all down to vehicle value. The film was made circa 1982/1983 and the HK would have been 14 or 15 years old.

If you were to do the same today you would crash VT's as they are cheaper to buy than VX/VY/VZ's but still look similar enough.

Thats not surprising, it was made on a low budget and actually held the record for the lowest budget and highest grossing movie until Blairwitch Project (which was a crap film)was made.

You only have to be in front at the end of the race.

One of the reasons is that the film is not always shot in order, so they filmed the smash but still needed the car for other images. It is not unusual for a car to have a couple of doubles. Spoke to a guy that had one of the GTOs out of movie, his is the

When I went looking for a '57 in the early 90's I looked at one and the same owner had the black 4 door out of the movie.

I know the fellow who has it, well had it from 1986ish to 1993. Have lost contact with him since then but if I was a betting man would say he still has it.

Yes the car was a 4 door turned into a 2 door.

That is the guy. Nice fellow. He help me with my Monaro in the mid 80s.

He did move up here in the early 90s but they would not let him register the 57 in Qld, so like all car enthusiasts he moved back to Sydney.
