would someone know what the original bonnet hinges and nuts/bolts etc around the cars were plated with zinc or nickel? as i have had conflicting answers and who is the best to do this type of work.

Zinc. You will need to make a jig up for the spring to pull it apart.

The hinges were actually Galvanised originally , but most now just blue zinc them as the last person suggested . And the springs will come off if you double over a coat hanger and pull hard !

think you will find zinc is galvanising although there are different finishes available.

i had a lot stuff done years ago in zinc and it doesnt wear like the original plated items it looks odd after 5-10years like my bonnet catch and nuts and bolts.
could the original stuff be nickel?or just my stuff was not plated correctly.

a lot of the factory stuff is cadium plated but not used much nowdays as the chemicals used are quite toxic zinc plating is now used they also used galv as suggested as for the bonnet springs these were black phosphate or similar finish hope this helps
