will and 4.000" SBC piston fit a 308 conrod its just there about $300 cheaper for chev pistons then 308 pistons so was wondering if i could use them. Dan |

I think i have asked this question befor but cant find it in the forum, i have a 308 with ground out engine preffix numbers may have been stolen once i dont know its just how i got it. if is grind it smooth again when i go to register my car will they jus |

yes, the holden and chev small ends on the conrod are both 0.927". you can use a 327 chev piston with a 1.678" pin height. that is the closest you will get to the 1.69" pin height of the 308.
are you looking at forged or cast?

dunno what is better? i need around 10.5:1 comp as im using a crane 304 hyd, L34 mild ported pre pollution heads standard stroke and a redline maxi torquer. this is the combo im gunna try for the LC most of the parts i have from previous cars i just need |

Use Holden pistons. Chev pistons will give you the wrong quench and lead to pinging and loss of potential hp.

unless your putting a blower on use cast pistons. they are lighter and will do the same thing. ACL rebuild kits are around $600, and just ACL duralites are around $300. I was looking into forged 327 slugs for my turbo project because ACL forgies are $14

where did you find chev pistons $300 cheaper than cast holden pistons? holden pistons must have been bloody expensive.

so if the 327 are 0.012" which is about 0.25mm lower in piston height would domed 327piston work as long with standard gaskets? to keep my compression were i want it? i guess my engine machinist could take 0.012" of the heads? getting machine work is Edited by user Saturday, 16 August 2008 6:31:25 PM(UTC)

no a domed piston will not rectify the quench problem, its the flat part of the piston crown that determines the quench. The head being machined wont make a difference either. do it anyway to gain back some compression. the only way to fix the problem i

you know your stuff thanks for the help. the rest of the engine is fine its just that crane 304 reguires at least 10.5:1 comp. i may be better off selling the cam and getting a smaller one. as this engine is only to fill the gap of the bigger one i am b |

if you are getting adjustable roller rockers anyway, go for a solid cam. the crane 304 is one of the biggest hydraulic cams you can get. why not get the extra benefit. clearly you aren't fussed about fuel usage with a cam like the 304. Or be like every o

nope the heads are pre pollution L34 mild port work, i have 4 engines one the go at once you maybe getting confused with some of my posts. The roller rockers are for my bro inlaws HX his engine is fully underway and we are just waiting for the machining t |

The Stroker engine for when the LC becomes wild at the moment is the VB 308 turbo 350 but thinking i might sell it and the turbo 350 and go VR VT block with roller cam and 2 steed glide or lanco |

why VR block? the VT and VSIII are the only blocks that came from factory with roller cams. If you want a roller cam you have two options: 1) buy retro fit roller lifters from crane ($750 approx) 2) have you lifter bores sleeved and centred to turn the
