i was doing a thermostat on my xf and i undone the standard bolt and the other one is some bleeder crap so i went to undo it and it snaped in the head. Fu*king thing i think i will have to take the motor out and drill it but im sh*ting myself about the alloy. Anyway when i get it out do i have to put that bleeder sh*t back in.

Once you have removed the thermostat housing is there enough metal sticking out to grab with vice grips and remove the broken bolt?
You don't have to re install a bolt with a bleeder as you can just bleed the air out by leaving that bolt out wh

No the bolt is completly snaped half way down the thred. Im a ford man but what a stupid idea to put a thermostat and housing right at the front of the head with that bleeder.

can you drill and tap the thing? worse comes to worst there is always a heli-coil.

i think i can drill and tap it i have to take the motor out first ill get to it on the weekend

Ya gunna try a easy out or u gunna rip the motor out ?. seems to me the punishment dont fit the crime.... you can buy excellent easy outs. not them dodgy reverse thread junk, but splined hardened shafts. that be my first try bloke

I have those left hand thred ones ive tryed it already they just break. still gonna have to drill it for the easy out anyway aint i. Not wrong they are dodgy anyway ill shop around for any better ones but i think i will have to face the music and lift the

if your got an air compresor you could get a right angle drill and drill it with out pulling the motor. but dosen't the bolt have a hole in it for the bleeder

yea it has a hole in it so it bleeds the head
