I think this question is for Dr Terry and I am sure it has been answered before but I couldnt find it.
I am after the engine numbers for the HQ 202 and other associated info.
What did they start with and what did they finish with? and how many did they make? also can a boat motor 202 be used in a sedan etc? were boat motors released early or late? were there any mods to the engine from when they were released in the first HQ to when they started to produce the HJ, apart from pollution gear?

I shall get the ball rolling.
First engine number in the HQ started at 1001 and was sequencial for all engines except 350. So the first engine may have been QL1001, the second engine could have been QT1002.
Statesman engines have an 11 prefix, ie 11

added - Warren and I must have been typing at the same time so some of my stuff repeats what Warren says. Warren, didnt the HQ 350 engines sit in the same number sequence as the rest, or do you mean they have a North American suffix as well? That is right Byron, the 350 engine did not sit in the same sequence as the 173/202/253/308. They were allocated a number depending on the vehicle assembly plant.
00001 - 09999 Brisbane 10000 - 39999 Sydney 40000 - 73999 Melbourne 74000 - 89999 Adel

(Tranx, sorry for the thread hijack!)
Cool. Will fix the HQ 350 stuff before I publish it. This also explains the few odd Nasco/GMP&A HT/HG 350 engines ive found (they exist in the HQ 350 series(es)).

V series ran seperate to H series - real early VB commodores are V*xxxx, but most are V*xxxxx as VB didnt quite get to 100,000 and if HZ were mixed in, it would be near double that.
When the blue motor came out, WBs were sequenced in with commodores (i |

Mick do you have any late WB engine numbers recorded as I have a Nov 84 eng as 11WT483020 and a Feb 85 12WT886716. It may have been recorded wrongly but does anyone know if the numbers changed with the prefix change I assume for the black motors.

Mick,
HZ changed to Z*XXXXX in late 78, so they maybe in there.
Torana is different in LC/J.

Mick, Qx999999 was reached almost in line with VB release and at that time HZ engines went to Zx1001 which AFAIK then continued on into WB. So what you say about the V series makes me think that the Commodores are indeed contained in the HZ-WB series EXCE |

Only problem is HG utes with 202s were prefixed GL (or GM if one existed) not QL. So you might as well run any 202 if you cant find a GL.

Byron I thought all WBs were assembled in Adel on a separate line or was that just the long wheelbase cars?

To be honest I dont know. I was just going by what the Doc told me this morning. I know that every WB commercial I have seen was from Elizabeth.
