I have bought a XC panel van got it cheap. but the thing is covered in bog. i have cleaned one side of to metal (15mm thick in places) only to find butchered attempts to pull out dents and un-treated rust, that can all be fixed. The main problem is the idiot has stick welded some small angle iron on in place of the gutters. but he didn't put them on as gutters ( |> like that not L| ). So just wondering if anyone has ever had to replace the gutters on any vehicle and how the best way to go about it is.

Cheers Ashley

Hasn't anyone re-done gutters on a car before? Does anyone know a good place to take the van to around Adelaide to have it done?

cheers Ashley

What you do is find a donor car with good gutters. Grind your old gutters off and tack on the new ones. Have a look around some wrecks from that era. I'm not sure if the later panos had gutters or not but worth checking as there would be more of those

I had to replace the gutters in a couple of the trucks I own. I had some sheetmetal folded up at a sheetmetal place (about 3mm thick). Cost me $25.00 for 3 metres. You can tell them the dimensions you want then just cut pieces as you need them.

Maybe the original gutters are still there under the angle hence why the angle is welded on as you describe.

I know where there is a pair of XH van gutters which would be as new as you could get unless you found NOS ones.

Trouble is they are in Canberra.

Do you need the gutters? I reckon an XC would look pretty smooth with the gutters removed.

well that is the other option, have no gutters. i just have to work out what i want to do. but first thing is first remove dents and rust then tackle the gutter situation.

jim5.0 thanks for the offer of xh gutters but i will keep looking round SA sinc

Could your gutters still be lurking under the angle iron?

Nuh mate its small angle iron and only roughly follows the same line that the gutters should be on and doesn't go the full stretch. I reckon i'll just get rid of the angle iron and flush it off and see what that looks like. if its no good i can always fin
