Hi,

Just wondering if i could get your ideas and advice?

I have been quoted $2750 to get my 253 red rebuilt. This includes:
new pistions, all required bearings, heads machined, oversized valves, new cam and lifters, gasket set and welch plugs. Includes acid clean and bore/hone. the $750 is to put it all together (long)

Is this price good? I get the feeling i am getting the run around by this guy. I have been told that I may be able to swap the motor and a pre reco engine, anyone got any ideas of a reputable engine reco dude in vicotoria that does this sort of thing?

Appreciate your help....cheers:)

Hi Bridget,

The cost sounds about right. Taking out the labour, brings it down to $2000. My std heads got redone for around $800. Add the cam, around $200. Welch plugs are cheap but gasket set isnt. Add another $200. So thats $1200. Hydraulic Lifters,

Price sounds about right.

Stay with the standard sized valves on a 253 - I put Blue WB heads on my 253 painted them red though to match the HQ (sourced from Byron - thanks again) which I had hardened valve seats etc for Unleaded/gas, and a mild bit of
