hey yall
early last year i got a dipstic masqurading as an auto elec to work on my 308 conversion.
the F.Wit lost a small nut from the coil, sitting above the carby, i searched with mirrors and magnet to make sue it had not fallen down into the inlet manifold,
could not find it,
today 308 started making a real serious racket,y sound,
just wondering on your thoughts?
could the nut have finally lodeged in between the valve and head?
i know i will have to take rocker cover off, but wondering if it could be something else, and or is there maybe other ways to fault find such problemo?
your feedback appreciated,
it definately sounds like head tappet rackety sound.
cheers

So what your saying is you think that the nut has fallen into the engine
and has got stuck in the head or got stuck in the valve camber if so
what about a compression test or pray and hope it passes free without
any damage good luck dude your gunna n

Hi BCB,

If the nut was lost during electrical work maybe the nut went into the carb, and is now rattling around the valves/pistons.

Use a long handled screwdriver against your ear to find the BAD cylinder. One will be LOUD. If u are lucky, find the

hi BCB,

Actually put handle of screwdriver to ear ! Not as u have stated hehe.

Now if the sparky was doing sparky stuff I cant see why the rockers would be off and a nut got in. A nut if ingested into the engine will be the gap between piston and v

A mate of mine dropped one of those tiny spring washers that were on the screws that hold the carby top on his 186.

It made a terrible clatter and head removal revealed that it had been hammering on the top of the piston pretty hard.

Busted rocker bridge. When I worked in a Holden Dealer spare parts section back in the mid 80s we used to sell a fair few of those.
