Hi Folks, I'm running a 302 Windsor in my ZD Fairlane. It was fully rebuilt about 300km ago. The motor is fairly tame with the main changes being cam, lifters, springs, late model heads, manifold, carb and pipes. It's been dyno tuned and runs really well but recently when I took it out on a warmish sort of day it kept "running on" when I switched it off. A friend suggested running 95 octane fuel rather than the 91 octane that I currently put in it (which I will try), he also suggested a cooler spark plug. Any other suggestions?

Do you have any vacuum leaks? What is your compression ratio and idle speed? If it is only on hot days and you do not want to retard your timing, try switching it off in gear (I assume it is auto) and it may not run on.

Hi, There are no vacumn leaks. the motor has 9.5:1 compression ratio. I don't want to play with the timing as I've just spent a ton of money getting it all set up on the dyno and it runs really nice, I guess i could kill it when it's in drive but my pre

The timing has nothing to do with the car running on, once the ignition is off theres no spark anyway so chaging the timing wont help. The only ignition related source may be spark plugs that are too a hot heat range. By far the most common cause of run

HI Folks I've been running it on 91 octane on the recommendation of the guy who built the engine. I have now switched to 98 octane and it seems happier, I'll put some more miles under her to make sure it's all OK but I think this may have been the issue
