I currently have a UC with Starfire 4, Trimatic and Salisbury 3.9 diff all in good order. Shocking fuel economy even after full tune up. Any ideas maybe as to what could be an alternative. Maybe a 4 speed gearbox or upgrade to 6 cyl and what changes would be required.

put a small red 6 in it and a 3.08 diff. Eg a 173. A modified lh/lx banjo is probably the go. Just weld hq-hz 6cyl top mounts on. Trimatic is the same but will have to move back and use 6cyl tailshaft and shift rod.
