so whats better and why Tri-y headers or 4 into 1? and is there much power diferance between the 2?

Tri-y better for low down torque, street use. 4 into 1 better at higher revs, track and strip use.

Gday,there was a very interesting(controvesial)artical in october 08 STREET MACHINE page 120 by Darren Di-Filippo(DiFilippo performance exhausts),on this very subject.

Its a good read,maybe its on their website.

If you size a 4 into 1 pipe properly, it will **** on a try y every day of the week, even on a mild engine.

The reason "the try is better" myth perpetuates is because of the shelf pipes are a "one size fits all" approach.

You summed it up when you say about sizing pipes properly. TriYs are the same.

You got me there Sandman, but in my defense were not talking about high end race engines here. I have try y on my own car thats 400+ hp, but only because the "off the shelf" 4 into 1 is way too big for my engine (being 1 3/4 primary)

Ive been into Jap bikes for quiet a few years and the Japs dont mess around when it comes to getting big performance out of little engines,anyhow Ive noticed that they are still using what appears to be a tri-y system on their high end engines(4 into 2 in

Yeh, I agree, I like reading the tech stuff and things people have found.

As for LSx engines, I cant answer that. Maybe someone on the Aust LS1 forum can. Theres a lot of really good info on there.

Maybe with LSx engines it is like I was saying earlier about TriYs being made with small pipe and just cheap and easy to fit??
Thats probably why they would OK on my wagon. Its auto, heavy car, tall gears, doesnt rev past 6100. So small pipe triYs is may

Ive been talking to Greg at Sureflo mufflers and Steve at Oztrack tuning about a new system and then a tune on my Cross8. Greg recommends HPC coated short 4 into 1s, twin 2.5" pipes through high flow cats and then into a single 3.5" pipe. Apparantly these
