Hi, I was just wondering if anyone out there has any info regarding 40th anniversary olympic edition HX Kingswoods. Ive just bought one, it's mettalic blue with a gold roof and has badges with a flame and '40th anniversary' written on, located on the rear quarters and glove box lid. The VIN number ends in A9C. Car has only got 161,000 original k's and am wondering if it is rare?? Please email me if you have any info - [email protected]

the hx had a 50th anniversary for GM Australia 50 years 1926-76. this model was A9C.
These were limited edition released in Nov 76, not a big dollar car but would be scarce by now.certainly worth restoring.

They did a special HT 253 Kingswood - "White Knight" or something like that. I think it was to promote the new 253. I remember Ben or Warren (or maybe Dr Terry) talking about the HT 307 auto for the same price as a 253 manual to help clean out the 307s.

hi Byron
I think the HT 253 was called the White Hot Special, and consisted of the 253, three on the tree and (from memory), heater demister and possibly disc brakes ... I have a road test of it somewhere ... but not sure if it was in Wheels, Modern Moto

Yes there were lots of specials and others that were a constant option. By constant option, the current SV6 is not a model on its own but an option on the base model.

These are some:

Holden
HT White hot
HQ 25th
HQ GTS/4
Sandman
HJ/X Delux
HX 5

From memory the HT White hot special was only available in white and only in Kingswood sedans, I think trim colour was whatever it came with. Seem to remember it being a weapon in the constant GMH Vs Ford battle, they were heavily discounted and designed

Yes white hot was Kingswood and was just about the same price as the same car with 186 engine. It was designed to get people to sample the new 253 engine, spread the word about how good it was so they would sell plenty of 253s in the future. It worked, lo

Thankyou Warren, that sounds more plausible the old word of mouth trick. I had a 253 in a VH Commodore, the thing I didnt like was the thermal switch on the vacuum advance, very dicey with a cold engine when trying to sprint out of a stop sign into busy t

Byron, the "White Knight" was a limited edition Charger.
