Is the red and the blue 253 the same engine internally or does anyone know what is the difference between the two.

it was more to do with head design and intake for newer pollution regs on the blue motor as i think the blocks are the same.

Early red (up till basically the end of HQ) are neoprene rear main seal. Blue engines have longer sockets for the inner 4 x head bolts (2 each side) - the ones that protrude out into the valley. There are also two different red head designs plus the blue |

Does anyone know up to what engine number used a neoprene seal.

Blue and black heads are also the same, therefore the black heads can go on the 253 even though there is no Black 253.

253 blue motor cranks also run a different counterwieght to red motors
going to church makes you no more a christian than standing in a garage makes you a car... |

byron,yes im sure...pointed out to me by the race car guys that buy all my 253 motors...they will run blue blocks but wont run blue cranks so i just supply them with red cranks..blues wont rev as had as reds because of different counterwieght..

Well there you go - learn something new everyday! Odd though that 253 and 308 rope seal cranks kept their same part numbers from mid HQ right up till the end of 253 and 308.
