Hi all
Wondering what the original stereo configuration would have been like in the HQ Premier.
For whatever reason, mine has nothing. The instrument fascia still has the radio plate in tact.
I was thinking about custom mounting a HU in the glovebox, and getting a decent set of 6" splits, and mounting them in the kick panel location with a custom fibreglass panel, to aim them up a bit. Im not interested in cutting the car up, or having subs. Will just be for a bit of background noise.
Any help/photos much appreciated!
Cheers, Al

My HQ Prem had an Airchief Eleven pushbutton AM radio with the mono speaker as per above.
There has been another thread describing the different Airchief radios.

Thats interesting. I would have thought the radio would be standard in the up-specced Premier.

The only HQs that got radios as standard, were the Statesman Deville (1973 onwards) & the limited edition 25th Anniversary Premier model. All other HQs had the radio blanking panel unless a radio was ordered as a factory option or the dealer fitted one as |

My old Prem had the rotary wheel radio in dash. As the rest say, single oval speaker in the top of the dash near the air vents.
Now, if you want to put the speaker on the kickpanels they have to go on the outside of the kick panel. The inner measuremen

Thanks for all the info. Is that speaker a 6x9? It looks closer to a 5x7.

Export HQ Chev Statesman got a Clarion Radio/Casette with quad speakers and fade control between front and back, as per my owners handbook and what is actually still fitted in the car.

This set-up was available for all HQ sedans & coupes, but the Aust cars used an Air Chief radio/cassette unit made by Astor. They had the option of 2 speakers or 4, with a fader control mounted above the cig lighter on the dash fascia. All the stereo s Edited by user Wednesday, 10 December 2008 2:21:10 AM(UTC)
